Movie News Round-Up

From Blade Runner to James Franco to Adventure Time, this is a week full of movie news.

There’s an Adventure Time movie in development.  The animated film will be helmed by Chris McKay, who worked on The LEGO Movie.  No synopsis has been released yet.

In case you haven’t heard, Paul Bettany is set to make his directorial debut with the film Shelter, a movie about a couple that falls in love while homeless on the streets of New York.  The film is set for a late 2015 release and stars Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Mackie.

James Franco is reportedly wrapped up negotiations to star in the film Why Him?, a movie about a father who takes a road trip with his family, then meets his daughter’s boyfriend, (Franco) an Internet billionaire.  While it could be a fun film, director John Hamburg also directed I Love You, Man, a raunchy comedy about two men pretending to be homosexuals, so his involvement isn’t necessarily a good indication for the content of the film.

Harrison Ford will star in Blade Runner 2, the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s beloved sci-fi thriller.  Scott will produce the sequel, which will take place several years after the first film.  Other plot details are not yet known.

Leonard Nimoy, who’s known best for his original portrayal of Mr. Spock in Star Trek: The Original Series and the film series, passed away last week at 83.  He suffered from chronic pulmonary disease.  The actor also had a recurring role in the J.J. Abrams sci-fi show Fringe, and was an occasional director, poet, musician, and photographer.
